NICEVILLE, Fla.  – Northwest Florida State baseball is set to kick off its 2025 season tomorrow morning in Sarasota, competing in the SCF Legends Classic hosted by State College of Florida (SCF).

The Raiders will open the weekend with a single game against SCF on Saturday, January 25, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Sunday doubleheader on January 26. They'll face Miami Dade at 10:00 a.m. and SCF again at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The Raiders are coming off one of the most historic seasons in program history. In 2024, under the guidance of head coach Doug Martin, the team posted a 40-15 regular-season record, capturing their second straight Panhandle Conference Championship, their second-ever FCSAA State/NJCAA Region VIII Championship, and earning a spot in the NJCAA World Series for just the second time in program history. The Raiders capped off their incredible run as the NJCAA National Runner-Up.

Last year's squad ranked among the nation's best both offensively and defensively. The roster was packed with Division I talent, with 12 players signing with four-year universities, including six who joined Power Five programs. Additionally, two players were selected in the 2024 MLB Draft: Mack Estrada (10th round) and Colby Jones (13th round).

While much of last season's roster has moved on, the Raiders return nine key contributors and have bolstered their lineup with several collegiate transfers, including 11 from Division I programs.

Key returners include: Qrey Lott (OF), Mathew Keller (INF), Bryon Rincones (RHP), Alex Walsh (RHP), Sam Strek (RHP), Alex Kruse (LHP), Jackson Evers (RHP), Preston Murphy (C) and Joe Cable (C).

Incoming transfers include: Sam Schmidt (RHP), Tristan Bittle (OF), Ryker Chavis (LHP), Cooper Powell (LHP), Angel Santiago (INF), Sylas Boris (INF), Matt Farner (INF), Augusto Mungarietta (C), Joe Wittig (RHP), Henry Allen (INF), Hutson Guinn (INF), David Alvarez (OF), Brady Robertson (RHP).

This weekend's opponents—SCF and Miami Dade—pose strong early challenges. SCF, nicknamed the Manatees, received votes in the NJCAA Preseason Poll and finished the 2024 season with a 30-24 overall record (17-16 in Citrus Conference play). Miami Dade, while unranked in the preseason poll, ended last year with a 28-26 record, including a 19-14 mark in conference play.

While the season is long and this opening weekend won't define the year, these three games will provide an early look at how the Raiders stack up heading into non-conference play.
