Strek Awarded National Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE — On Wednesday afternoon, the NJCAA announced its baseball player and pitcher of the week winners, with Sam Strek earning Pitcher of the Week honors.

Strek becomes the first Raider (Baseball) this season to earn a national Player of the Week recognition. This achievement comes after the freshman right-hander threw a gem in Panama City last week against No. 5 ranked Gulf Coast State. Strek threw shut down the Commodore's offense, tossing a complete game (seven innings), allowing just one run (unearned), one hit, no walks, and strikeout ten batters while earning the win.

This outing was Strek's first start and first win of the season. Stek got his second nod of the year last night, where he tossed another complete game (five innings) against Tallahassee, allowing just two hits and striking out three. Stek's season ERA now stands at 2.10, which leads all Raiders. He's also struck out a total of 29 batters, which is one of the top ten on the pitching staff.

Northwest Florida State baseball will be back at home tomorrow night at 5:00 PM, where they will take on Tallahassee for game two of their four-game set.
