Big 2nd Inning Puts Raiders on Top, 8-5 over Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Northwest Florida's 5 runs in the 2nd inning propeled the Raiders to an 8-5 victory over Pensacola State College. The Raiders improve to 24-12-1, 9-5 in the Panhandle Conference.

 

After an early 2-0 deficit in the first inning, Northwest Florida answered back with 5 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd inning. Kendrey Maduro lead the inning off with a solo shot to left field and Paul Winland started the traffic on the bases on a bunt single down the third base line. Cade Easterbrook reached base on an error and Scott Mudler drew a 4 ball walk to load the bases. Cayden Gaskin blasted a grand slam to right field to put the Raiders up 5-2, never looking back from that point on. The Pirates would bring it back to 5-4 on a 2 RBI double but, Northwest Florida extended their lead to 8-5 in the top of the 9th with singles from Cayden Gaskin and Tyler Lejeune. Cayden Gaskin finished the night 2-4 with 5 RBIs.

 

Ramsey David (4-1) picked up the win for the Raiders as the sophomore went 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and fanning 9 batters. Noah Simon came in relief of David, going 1.1 innings, allowed 1 hit and 1 earned run. Kyle Beaty closed the door for NWF, recording the final 5 outs, striking out 4. 

 

Northwest Florida will be back in action for a double header vs. Pensacola on Friday, April 7th at 1:00 PM.
