Raiders take down San Jacinto in opener of Perfect Game USA Classic

PANAMA CITY, FL - It came down to the wire on Friday, with Northwest Florida State College taking victory on a dramatic walk-off walk in the late innings that sealed their victory over San Jacinto College. The game was tied at five with the Raiders batting in the bottom of the eighth when Brant Smith drew a walk, scoring one run.

 

San Jacinto scored three runs in the third inning, but NWF still managed to pull out the victory. Armani Sanchez and Jack Hicks powered the big inning with RBIs.

 

San Jacinto opened up scoring in the second inning, when Sanchez singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

 

In the bottom of the third inning, Northwest Florida State College tied things up at five. Smith drove in two when Smith doubled.

 

The Raiders tallied five runs in the third inning, lead by Tyler Kehoe and Austin Kelly, a groundout by Carlos Guzman, and a double by Smith.

 

Jacob Phillips earned the victory on the mound for Northwest Florida. The ace lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five.

 

Hunter Hollan led things off on the pitcher's mound for San Jacinto. The southpaw went two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on one hit and striking out two. Matthew Tiedding and Lex Garcia entered the game as relief, throwing four and a third innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

 

Caleb Reis started the game for NWF. The pitcher went three innings, allowing five runs on six hits, striking out four and walking one.

 

Blake Cavill, Diego Guevara, and Smith each collected one hit to lead the Raiders
