Raiders Roll Over Santa Fe

LAKELAND, Fla. – Northwest Florida State baseball scored seven times in the final two innings and got stellar pitching to roll over Santa Fe, 11-3, on Wednesday in the Region VIII Baseball Tournament at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Carlos Guzman went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, home run, and three runs batted in while Dylan DeLucia continued to pitch well striking out eight batters in seven innings of work.

Nasir Frederick got the Raiders (30-15) on the board first in the third inning with a single to left to score Austin Turner.

In the fourth, Seth Williams plated Guzman and later came around to score on a Santa Fe error.

DeLucia ran into his only jam of the game in the bottom half of the fourth. After the first two Santa Fe batters reached on a single and a walk, respectively, DeLucia got a fly ball for the first out of the inning. The Saints did not fold, however, recording three consecutive run-scoring singles to tie the game.

With two outs in the fifth, Guzman smashed a solo home run to left to reclaim the lead for NWF, 4-3.

Tyler Kehoe added to the advantage with a two-run homer in the seventh followed by an Austin Kelly RBI double. Nasir Frederick, Regan Burford, and Guzman all drove in runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Northwest Florida tallied 13 hits in the game, the most by the team since April 6. Santa Fe could muster just five hits as a team, its fourth fewest of the season.

The Raiders advance to take on Florida SouthWestern at 3 p.m. (CT). Fans can watch the game free on the FCSAA Digital Network.
