7-Run Fourth Inning Propels Raiders to Home Win

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State baseball scored seven runs in the fourth inning en route to an 11-1 win over Pensacola on Wednesday at the Raider Baseball Complex.

After the Pirates struck for a run in the first, the Raiders (23-12, 9-6 PC) plated four in the second.

Austin Kelly got NWF on the board with a one-out solo home run. Northwest Florida loaded the bases for Austin Turner, who came through with a full-count single to score two. Trace Willhoite followed with another single to score another run and give the Raiders a 4-1 lead.

In the seventh, Turner and Willhoite collected consecutive RBI hits. NWF got runs on a bases loaded catcher's interference call followed by a Reagan Burford sacrifice fly.

One batter later, Cherokee Nichols got in one the action with bases clearing double to cap the scoring.

Turner finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI. Willhoite and Kelly each had two hits and two RBI, while Burford collected a pair of hits as well.

Dante Chirico was stellar on the mound. The right-hander struck out six in five innings of work and surrendered one run on four hits.

Northwest Florida returns to action on Friday against Chipola at the Raider Baseball Complex. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
