Northwest Florida, Tallahassee Split Doubleheader

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 20 Northwest Florida State baseball split a road doubleheader at Tallahassee on Sunday.

Tallahassee 7, Northwest Florida 6

Tallahassee scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to take the first game of the doubleheader, 7-6.

The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, but NWF responded with four runs in the fourth.

Trace Willhoite led off the frame with a home run to get the Raiders on the board. After Austin Turner drew a walk Reagan Burford launched a two-run homer to center to tie the game. Northwest Florida took the lead two batters later when Carlos Guzman scored on a wild pitch.

Cherokee Nichols laced a run-scoring double in the sixth and Seth Williams hit a solo homer in the seventh to cap the scoring for the Raiders.

In the bottom of the seventh, a two-out walk followed by a double set up Nick Niewulis, who ended the game with two-RBI single.

Caleb Reis got the start and pitched five innings. The right-hander surrendered two earned runs and struck out four.

Northwest Florida 7, Tallahassee 6

In another back-and-forth game, Northwest Florida rebounded to defeat Tallahassee, 7-6.

With the game tied a 6-all in the fifth, Williams delivered the decisive blow with an RBI single to right.

Willhoite kicked off the scoring with an RBI double in the first. After Burford and Kelly were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded in the fourth, Austin Turner drove in the Raider's sixth run with a sacrifice fly.

Tyler Kehoe and Austin Kelly finished with two hits each. John Michael Gillis pitched three shutout innings in relief to earn the win on the mound.
