Raiders Defeat Bishop State, 7-5
NICEVILLE, Fla. – No. 4 Northwest Florida State baseball overcame an early deficit to defeat Bishop State, 7-5, at the Raider Baseball Complex on Tuesday.
Trailing 2-0 in the second, Luke Boynton drove in a run with a ground ball and Cherokee Nichols followed with a sacrifice fly to draw the Raiders level.
Northwest Florida (10-4) took the lead in the fifth when Carlos Guzman hit a line drive single to center to plate Trace Willhoite. The Raiders added two more two batters later on a two-RBI double from Nichols.
Boynton and Austin Turner extended the lead when each doubled home runs in the seventh. Bishop State struck with a two-run home run in the ninth to make it a two-run game but couldn't get any closer.
Stephen Restuccio got the start on the mound and tossed four innings allowing two runs on three hits. Christian Mracna pitched two scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts.
NWF returns to action on Thursday against Shelton State at 4 p.m. at the Raider Baseball Complex.
