Pitching Dominates in Doubleheader Sweep

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Runs were at a premium but pitching superb as Northwest Florida State baseball swept a doubleheader from Coastal Alabama – South, 2-0 and 3-1, on Friday in Panama City.

Northwest Florida 2, Coastal Alabama – South 0

Dylan Ross was nearly unhittable as the right-hander struck out six en route to a two-hit shutout. Both hits off Ross came in the fifth inning after he had retired 12 consecutive batters to start the game.

On the season, Ross has allowed just three runs and has struck out 21 hitters in 19 innings of work.

The Raiders (8-2) got on the board in the first inning courtesy of an RBI single by Austin Kelly to score Nick Standridge. Tyler Kehoe tripled home Reagan Burford in the second and that was all the offense NWF needed for the victory.

Northwest Florida 3, Coastal Alabama – South 1

Northwest Florida won its eighth consecutive game on the back of another quality pitching performance.

Dylan DeLucia allowed just an unearned run on one hit and five strike outs in five innings. Caleb Reis tossed two clean frames to pick up the save.

Brandon Riera gave the Raiders the lead in the fourth with an RBI single. Two batter later, Kehoe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in another run.

Austin Kelly sealed the win with a solo home run in the fifth, his second of the season.

Northwest Florida is set to travel to Palatka, Fla. Feb. 18-20 to take part in the John Tindall Classic.
