NWF Baseball Takes Two in Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 4 Northwest Florida State baseball got solid pitching all day as the Raiders defeated Coastal Alabama – East, 8-0, and Pensacola, 3-1, at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Saturday.

Northwest Florida 8, Coastal Alabama – East 0

The Raiders (3-2) took advantage of three Coastal Alabama miscues, while three NWF pitchers combined to shutout the Warhawks in the first game of the day.

Dylan Ross got the start and tossed three shutout innings with four strikeouts. Thomas Wilhite and Stephen Restuccio combined to pitch the final four innings and fanned seven hitters.

Cherokee Nichols was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and triple. Luke Boynton and Nasir Frederick also picked up extra base hits. Carlos Guzman finished with a pair of hits for the Raiders as well.

NWF scored three runs on just one hit in the first inning. The Raiders added a run in the second and two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win.

Northwest Florida 3, Pensacola 1

With the game tied at 1-all in the fourth inning, Austin Turner singled home Trace Willhoite and Reagan Burford drove in Nichols on a sacrifice fly to give the Raiders all the run support they needed to pull off a 3-1 win in a non-conference game against Pensacola.

Caleb Reis allowed just one hit over three innings and struck out four. John Michael Gillis and Jacob Phillips pitched the final three innings combining to strike out eight hitters along the way.

Luke Boynton got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly in the first to plate Turner.

Northwest Florida returns to the diamond Feb. 3 on the road against Wallace-Hanceville.
