Raiders Drop Two on Opening Day

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 4 Northwest Florida State baseball took two on the chin on opening day of the 2021 season falling to Miami Dade, 12-5, and Florida Southwestern, 5-1, on Friday at Terry Park.

Miami Dade 12, Northwest Florida 5

Miami Dade exploded for six runs in the fifth inning and scored in each of the last four frames to race past the Raiders in the season opener.

Dylan Ross got the start on the mound for NWF and allowed two runs on five hits in three innings of work. He struck out three and walked two.

Austin Kelly was 2-for-2 at the plate with a solo home run and a pair of walks. Austin Turner finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs while Reagan Burford collected a pair of hits as well.

Florida Southwestern 5, Northwest Florida 1 (7 inn.)

The Raiders were held to three hits offensively but got a solid start from Dylan DeLucia. The right-hander tossed three scoreless innings, fanned four, and allowed just one hit.

Brandon Riera had an RBI single in the sixth for Northwest Florida's lone run.

NWF returns to action at 9 a.m. Saturday as the team faces Hillsborough.
