Northwest Florida Baseball Splits Doubleheader

NICEVILLE, Fla. – No. 2 Northwest Florida baseball split a doubleheader with Pearl River Saturday winning the first game, 4-1, before dropping the second, 2-1.

Beck Way continued his dominant start to the season striking out 13 in seven innings of work. The sophomore allowed one run on three hits and has given up just three earned runs and fanned 51 batters in 35 innings this season.

Tomas Sanchez got Northwest Florida (17-4) on the board with an RBI single in the second inning. Trace Willhoite scored on an error in the third to extend the lead. 

After Pearl River scored in the next half inning, both offenses remained quiet until Nic Nolan drove home a pair of runs in the sixth to give the Raiders the 4-1 lead.

Leif Moore and Kole Alford combined to silence Northwest Florida's bats in the second game.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Blake Buckle RBI single. Thomas Wilhite was solid on the mound surrendering two runs on six hits with five strike outs.

Pearl River scored runs in fourth and fifth to pull ahead and claim the victory.

Northwest Florida opens Panhandle Conference play on Saturday at Pensacola. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
