NICEVILLE, Fla. – Strong pitching was the theme for No. 9 Northwest Florida again on Saturday as the Raiders defeated Motlow State, 4-1 and 6-2, in a doubleheader at the Raider Baseball Complex.
Northwest Florida 4, Motlow State 1 (Game 1)
Northwest Florida (5-2) got great performances from Calvin Starnes and Caleb Reis, the duo held Motlow State to one run on just five hits.
Starnes got the start and struck out five over three innings. Reis fanned eight in four innings of relief.
Trace Willhoite opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first. Calin Smith drove in two runs on a double in the second and Leyton Pinckney crossed on a throwing error in the fourth.
Northwest Florida 6, Motlow State 2 (Game 2)
Smith continued to set the table at the top of the order with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Noah Bailey drove in two for the Raiders with a home run in the opening frame.
Thomas Wilhite went four innings on the bump tallying six strikeouts. Graham Firoved and Jackson Boyd closed out the game in relief.
Next up, the Raiders host Bishop State Tuesday at 3 p.m.
