Comeback Falls Short for Northwest Florida Baseball

PALATKA, Fla. – Trailing 4-0 in the fourth, No. 7 Northwest Florida mounted a comeback that fell just short in a 5-4 loss to Miami Dade Saturday.

The Raiders (8-3) got RBI hits from Justice Thompson, Blake Buckle and Leyton Pinckney in the fourth to draw within a run. Buckle then hit a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game, 4-4.

Miami Dade drew last blood, however, when Henry Wallen cranked a solo shot in the bottom half of the sixth to give the Sharks the lead for good.

Buckle finished the game 3-for-4 to lead Northwest Florida offensively. Jackson Boyd and Thomas Wilhite were solid out of the pen for the Raiders allowing 1 run on four hits in 4.2 innings of combined work.

NWF returns to the diamond Tuesday when the team travels to take on Lurleen B. Wallace at 1 p.m.
